May: Tree and Forest Month

10 May 2017

From 1982 to 2001, it was only one day. From now on, it’s a complete month dedicated to trees and forests: the month of May. This year again, each region of Quebec participates in its own way in the celebration of our trees and forests by organizing various activities that serve primarily to raise awareness of this exceptional wealth that is ours, and to reach as many people as possible.

The hashtag #faitdebois, shared through different social media during May, reminds us that wood is one of the most eco-friendly building materials. Wood is a valuable ally in the fight against climate change, absorbing carbon from the air, trapping it and releasing oxygen. This carbon remains in the wood even after the tree has been harvested, thus contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gases. Everything that is made of wood, like our genuine wood siding and shingles, ensures the renewal of trees in forests as well as their transformation into sustainable materials, which helps preserve the environment.

Tree and Forest Month is the ideal opportunity to learn more about this essential resource in Quebec, which covers almost half of its territory. Find out what events are happening in your area, and let us know what you think!
